For many families, choosing organic is about more than just what goes on their baby’s skin. It’s about the kind of world they want their child to grow up in.
Organic farming works with the land rather than against it. It avoids synthetic fertilisers, herbicides, pesticides and other chemicals that can affect the health of soil, water, and the communities living nearby. In a country like the Philippines, where agriculture is woven into the fabric of everyday life, the way crops are grown has a very real impact on local ecosystems, waterways, and the food and ingredients that eventually reach our homes.
What conventional chemicals can do
When synthetic pesticides and other agricultural chemicals are applied to crops, their effects don’t stay in one place. Rain carries them into rivers and groundwater, affecting the water families use and the fish communities depend on. Over time, they can deplete the soil of the minerals and microorganisms that keep it fertile and alive.
These same substances can also find their way into the products we use on our bodies. The skin is a living, breathing organ that absorbs what is placed on it, which is part of why the source and quality of ingredients matters, especially for babies whose skin is thinner and more porous than our own.
What we look for in our ingredients
At GAIA, our ingredients are carefully selected from natural sources wherever possible. We choose them for their gentleness and their beneficial properties, and we use as many certified organic ingredients as we can source. On our labels, organic ingredients are marked with an asterisk (*) so you can see exactly what you’re using.
Every organic ingredient in our products is verified through certificates from our suppliers. It isn’t something we claim lightly.
Why it matters for babies in particular
A baby’s skin is more permeable than an adult’s, meaning it absorbs topical products more readily. That makes ingredient quality especially relevant during those early months and years. Choosing products formulated with organic, naturally derived ingredients where possible is a simple way to reduce unnecessary exposure to synthetic chemicals at a stage when skin is still developing.
It’s also, for many Filipino parents, a choice that feels aligned with a broader value: caring for their family and the environment they share. At GAIA, that’s something we take seriously too.
